Google Trends today released the annual “Year in Search” data that shows a list of most popular searches in the year 2019. Google Trends analyzed the top Google search queries in different countries on search terms, news, celebrities, sports, movies, tv shows, and songs for the past 12 months.
Globally, the most trending search was ‘India vs South Africa’, a cricket series between two countries held in September and October. The third and fourth most trending search was ‘Copa America’ and ‘Bangladesh vs India,’ also related to sports. One of the primary reasons for such high search volume is because Google is now a favorite choice to query live scores and match results.
The second most trending search was ‘Cameron Boyce’, an American actor who died in July. The 20-year-old passed away in his sleep.
Here are the most popular global searches in a nutshell:
1) India vs South Africa
2) Cameron Boyce
3) Copa America
4) Bangladesh vs India
5) iPhone 11
6) Game of Thrones
7) Avengers: Endgame
9) Notre Dame
10) ICC Cricket World Cup
Google search trends in United States
‘Disney Plus’ was the most trending search in 2019 in the United States, thanks to Baby Yoda.
Besides that, ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Captain Marvel’, and ‘Joker’ were the top movies searched. ‘Hurricane Dorian’ was the most searched news, and ‘Antonio Brown’ was the most search person as well as the athlete.
‘Maldives’ is the new Carribean for Americans. Google has added data for “Trip to…” searches also this year. The Maldives, followed by Japan, Bora Bora, Las Vegas and Mexico are the top trends in US for it. According to World Atlas, in 2018, the Carribean was the favorite destination for Americans, maybe its time to experience new beaches.

Avengers: Endgame, Old Town Road & Game of Thrones were top Google searches in US and globally

This year, ‘Old Town Road’ is also the most trending search in the songs category, and ‘Game of Thrones’ as the most searched TV show in US as well as globally.
The most searched terms in the United Kingdom were ‘Rugby World Cup’ and ‘Cricket World Cup.’
2019 would be one of the memorable years for the United Kingdom as they won the Cricket World Cup for the first time in history even though they lost the Rugby finals to South Africa.
Looks like the Brits were most curious to know about Area 51. ‘Area 51’ topped the search results for “What is…?” in the UK.
