Apple bids farewell to Jony Ive as he left for ‘LoveFrom’

COO Jeff Williams will take charge of his responsibilities.

Sir Jonathan Paul Ive has finally left Apple for his own independent design firm ‘LoveFrom’. Jony Ive joined Apple in 1992 and became the head of the design team in 1996.

During his time at Apple, he designed many of their iconic and successful products i.e. iPod, iPhone, and iMac. On the 27th of June, Apple announced that Jony Ive would bid farewell to the company as an employee.

Today, on the 28th of November, the name and designation of Jony Ive have been removed from the official page of Apple’s website featuring the executives of the company.

After the death of Steve Jobs, Jony Ive has been considered the torchbearer and pioneer of Apple’s product design aesthetics and its vision. He has served Apple and revived its glory by his unique and innovative designs which later become the recognition of the company.

LoveFrom

Popularly known among Apple community and the magical voice behind many Apple commercial videos, Jonathan Ive has started his own design company LoveFrom, with his friend and fellow Marc Newson. Both founders had already collaborated on different successful products, including Apple Watch, a Diamond Ring, and the possible Apple Car.

Jony Ive describing the reason behind the seemingly bizarre name of his new company recalled an employee meeting which was presided by Steve Jobs. He told Financial Times that,

“There was an employee meeting a number of years ago and Steve [Jobs] was talking . . . He [said] that one of the fundamental motivations was that when you make something with love and care, even though you probably will never meet . . . the people that you’re making it for, and you’ll never shake their hand, by making something with care, you are expressing your gratitude to humanity, to the species.”

Soon as he announced about LoveFrom, CEO Tim Cook paid him tribute by saying that we will continue to take advantage of Jony’s talent, as Apple will be the first client of his newly established company.

Jony Ive shared his ties with COO Jeff Williams who is going to lead his team now. According to him, Jeff is quite a close friend. He has worked with him on the production of Apple Watch and found him extraordinary responsible with the combination of vast expereince and a deep sense of engineering.
