TikTok and Sony Music sign the most awaited licensing deal

TikTok users granted access to the Sony Music collection.

TikTok has signed a licensing deal with the world’s second-largest music company Sony Music Entertainment. The deal’s requisites include that Sony Music will grant the TikTok community access to the catalog of its current hits, favorites, all-time classics, and new releases. This agreement was announced on TikTok’s official blog post earlier this month.

Another important aspect of the agreement is Sony Music’s promise of helping TikTok artists at all levels and promoting them. TikTok, a video-sharing social networking service headquartered in China, depicted that the sound clips from Sony Music’s humongous catalog will boost the creativity and personalization of TikTok artists.

TikTok agreements with major music labels

The other deals TikTok has signed to date include one of the major agreements with ‘Merlin.’ Merlin is a large media group dealing with independent labels.

Knowing that TikTok hasn’t been on very good terms with the music industry, we cannot deny that it is also well known that the social media company has been working with Warner and Universal Music Groups, according to Billboard.

Disclosing details was on this was something TikTok wasn’t adamant about. With it being said, as Sony Music, Warner, and Universal Studios make up the major chunk of the music market in the US, it would be a great opportunity if TikTok establishes more permanent agreements with them. Billboard reported that TikTok had already decided upon licensing deals with these three major music companies earlier somewhere in this year, but the deals weren’t formal agreements rather just tidbits.

Global head of music of TikTok, Ole Obermann, said in a statement that: “We are thrilled to enter into this agreement with Sony Music so that we can continue to work together to connect the incredible roster of Sony artists in the US and across the globe to new audiences and harness the power of TikTok. Especially during this time when the artist community is challenged to find new ways to reach fans with their music, we are committed to working together to do just that.”

Obermann’s statement clearly shows that TikTok personnel as a team are pretty enthusiastic about this deal and aim for a positive outcome. A positive attitude undoubtedly goes a long way; we’re expecting the same from this deal too.
